What is FIA?

The Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) is a suite of entry-level qualifications designed to provide strong foundations in accounting and finance. These qualifications help improve employment opportunities, boost exam success rates, and prepare students for further studies in accounting and business.

Structure of FIA

The FIA program consists of seven qualifications:

  • ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 2)
  • ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 3)
  • ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business (RQF Level 4)
  • ACCA Certificate in Audit (RQF Level 4)
  • ACCA Certificate in Taxation (RQF Level 4)
  • ACCA Certificate in Financial Management (RQF Level 4)
  • Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Qualification

There are 10 Foundation-level exams in total. Students can choose which exams to take, and each exam leads to a relevant certificate or diploma. Except for the specialist awards in Audit, Tax, and Financial Management, all exams are available as computer-based exams (CBEs), allowing students to take them anytime at ACCA-approved exam centers.

Flexibility & Entry Points

One of the biggest advantages of the FIA structure is its flexibility. You can:
✔ Choose the qualification level that suits you.
✔ Decide when and how often to take exams.
✔ Select the order in which you complete the exams.

Anyone, regardless of their educational background, vocational skills, or work experience, can register for these qualifications. However, selecting the right starting point is crucial for success.

Choosing the Right Entry Level

Before enrolling, consider these key factors:

  1. Your educational background: Ensure that your general or vocational education, including math and English skills, aligns with your chosen qualification level.
  2. Your career goals: Choose a qualification based on where you currently work or where you want to work in the future. Your selection should align with your field of interest, such as audit, taxation, or financial management.

By making an informed decision, you can build a solid foundation for a successful career in accounting and finance.
